On December 29, 2009, Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) news reporter Bob Collins filed a story on the Minnesota Court of Appeals decision regarding the WCAL charitable trust.
The first paragraph of the story said:
The Minnesota Court of Appeals has ruled that St. Olaf College in Northfield was within its rights to sell WCAL radio to Minnesota. The station became The Current. MPR was not a party to the suit.
Notice how the MPR news department originally reported that MPR was not a party to the case and that they "corrected" their error.
But there's more. MPR's headline to the article of
WCAL sale upheld
and opening sentence of
The Minnesota Court of Appeals has ruled that St. Olaf College in Northfield was within its rights to sell WCAL radio to Minnesota.
are both factually incorrect.
The Appeals Court did not "uphold the sale" and they did not rule that "St. Olaf College was within its rights to sell WCA".
The only item the Appeals Court ruled on was that they said that SaveWCAL had filed a court action too late.

What has happened to Norwegian integrity? WCAL was an important presence in my childhood when, until age 12, we lived on a farm near Faribault. Designated gifts funneled off to do whatever a college wants?
